Mierle Laderman Ukeles

Mierle Laderman Ukeles is an artist based in New York City. Since the early 1980s, she has been the artist-in-residence at the New York City Department of Sanitation. Ukeles has received multiple awards from the National Endowment for the Arts and the NY State Council on the Arts and support from the Guggenheim, Andy Warhol, Joan Mitchell, and Anonymous Was a Woman Foundations. Projects include, Manifesto for Maintenance Art (1969), Touch Sanitation Performance (1977-80) and Flow City (1983 – 1996).
